Founding Partner

Houston became an Emeritus member of the firm in 2025 after 49 years practicing law. He is a Maury County native. His law practice covered many areas, with an emphasis on helping families with their estate and trust planning and estate administration. He is married to Suzanne, and they have one child, Alexander – both are educators.

In the middle part of his career, he was the senior trust officer and general counsel for First Farmers and Merchants Bank based in Columbia.

In addition to a busy law practice, Houston has been dedicated to service to the legal profession and his community. Among his activities have been serving on the boards of the Tennessee Bar
Foundation, the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education, the county school board, and the regional hospital board. He co-founded Leadership Maury and The Mediation
Center in Columbia.

He continues to advocate for the highest professional standards for lawyers, both in competence and ethics. His retirement hobby is writing, and he has published short works on education,
church laity, and a war veteran’s memoir.
